ASSASSINATION OF ROBERT KENNEDY

The ailing Aristotle Onassis confessed in 1974 that he organised the assassination of Robert Kennedy.
One of the richest and powerful men at his time admitted he was 68 years old but it was assumed that he was 74. His fortune came from running supply tankers across the Atlantic in the Second World War. He became famous when he became the owner of Monte Carlo in the Fifties. Furthermore, he was the only private owner of a national carrier.
Apparently he was foul mouthed, had heavy features with ape-like physique but became a legendary seducer. Famous names were on his list, film stars Gloria Swanson, Pauletter Goddard and Veronica Lake, including the socialite Princess Lee Radziwill who was Jackie Kennedy's sister. Maria Callas left her husband and became his mistress for years and yet he never married her.

Therefore, this admission that he financed the killing of his wife's brother-in-law is shocking. His right-hand man Yannis Georgakis called him a charming psychopath and he believed it that Onassis organized the killing of Robert Kennedy. So did his ex wife Tina, who then married his brother-in-law who was just as ruthless, and his son Alexander.

Onassis believed that his money was used for the assassination. If it was or not can't be prove but Onassis believed his son was murdered as revenge.

Apparently, Kennedy's killer, Palestinian Sirhan Sirhan, was telling the truth when he said he shot the former US attorney general under the influence of drugs or hypnosis.

Sirhan is still in prison today. The journalist Peter Evans wrote a book and would like to contact him but all his correspondence never reaches him.

Georgakis told him that he definitely said that and he was extremely superstitious. He thought was being punished by the gods when his son was killed. At the end of his life, Onassis was going out of his mind.

ONASSIS' LIFE

Aristotle Socrates Onassis was born, it is thought, in January 1900, in the Greek city of Smyrna, Nowadays it is called Izmir and is in Turkey. His father made a fortune in tobacco. The money was stolen when the Turkish army ransacked the city in 1922. Also some of the family members were killed. His father was imprisoned, it is said that the young Aristotle saved his life when he seduced a Turkish lieutenant.

He then bought his father's freedom and escaped to Athens. After that he immigrated to Argentina. There he worked at night at the telephone exchange. He listened in on business calls and learned some of the tips of speculation. He made his first fortune in manufacturing mild cigarettes for women and with the money he made, he bought a fleet of freighters and three of the world's largest tankers. In his earliest cargoes were drugs for organised crime.

By the end of the war he mixed with celebrities and the president's son Franklyn Roosevelt Jnr. He married the daughter of shipping king Stavros Livanos.

When he met Robert Kennedy in 1953, they despite each other. Onassis blamed Kennedy for criminal charges which threatened his US tanker business and a business deal with the Saudis.

In 1960 Jack Kennedy became President and Bobby Kennedy was his right-hand man. To get closer into the circle Onassis began an affair with Jackie Kennedy's sister. Jackie caused a scandal when she joined Onassis on a cruise while she was still married to JFK.

Five weeks later when JFK was killed Onassis was part of half-a-dozen invited to stay in the White House who were not of the Kennedy clan. Bobby who had an affair with Jackie after that was totally against her marrying the Greek. It was only possible after Bobby was gunned down in June 1968.that the marriage took place in October 1968.

There was evidence discovered that Onassis paid protection money to the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organisation). According to Sirhan's notebook he had two more names which Onassis hated. His brother-in-law Stavros Niarchos and his son's fiancée Baroness Fiona Thyssen.

Onassis regretted that he married Jackie soon after because she refused to go to Greece to supported him when he tried to negotiate with the ruling colonels. Within a week he was back with Maria Callas.
His daughter Christina who survived him was found dead in a hotel-room in Argentina.  It is assumed that she committed suicide.  She was only 37 years old.

A Book was written by Peter Evans. A play was written and is being performed in London since September 2010 about his life.
