KENSINGTON PALACE |
The latest report stated that most of the memorials in honour of Princess Diana are not upkept and in a very sorry state.
However, her two sons are keeping all the charities Princess Diana started. Prince Harry is building living and hospital quarters in Lesoto for children with aids or orphaned by it. Again a charity his mother started. Lesoto is the poorest country in Africa
UPDATE 27 October 2012 – Although the Royals did go an ahead and turned Princess Diana’s Apartment into an office but Prince William and his wife decided to move into another section of the Kensington Palace and had it decorated. It proves that Prince William is totally devoted to keep his mother’s memories alive even so he couldn’t prevent the change of his mother’s apartment to be turned into an office.
Another attempt is being made to forget Princess Diana. Why?
The Kensington Palace where Princess Diana was living with
other Royalties such as Princess Margaret and the Duke and Duchess of
Kent. Princess Diana had an apartment there after she divorced Prince
Charles.
It was decided that a 12 million overhaul of the Kensington
Palace was necessary. It will be completed before the Queen's Diamond Jubilee
in 2012.
Princess Diana's apartment will be used as an office and
therefore a great disappointment for her fans when they are going there to lay
flowers at the gate of the 17th century palace, on her anniversary of her
death. Over the past years, her apartment was used for exhibition of her
glamorous evening gowns and portraits. Many of the portraits were made by
her favourite photographer Mario Testino.
Princess Margaret's apartment will be opened to the public in
a month or two which is another insult to Princess Diana's memories. Especially
Princess Margaret who was known for her great reputation which was more than
disgraceful being the Queen's sister. To open her apartment to the public does
not show the Royal as having great principles.
When it re-opens Queen Victoria's and Princess Margaret's
apartment will be the main attraction. Queen Victoria was living there at the
time she was told of her ascension to the throne. Princess Margaret's apartment
will be restored to its former glory for the first time since her death in
2002. Princess Margaret called it her 18 feet of Mystique. Isn't it marvellous?
The chief curator, Dr Lucy Worsley, responsible for the
Historical Royal Palaces which also includes Kensington Palaces stated that
Diana is yesterday's woman. They don't think that she is of such a great
interest to the people that it would be worth while to have her own exhibition
space. How can they say that when people still cherish her memories and lay
flowers on her anniversary of her death? They don't for Princess Margaret and
not even at her funeral.
She thinks that Diana will remain a very important part of
history of the palace. However, she is no longer part of contemporary culture.
It's time for her to take her place in the gallery, alongside all the others.
(What about Princess Margaret and Queen Victoria?).
Dr Worsley said further, "In fact, of the 250,000
annual visitors to the palace, almost as many want to see the later 17th
century historic state apartments are drawn to the palace because it is Diana's
former home." Isn't she contradicting herself by stating above Diana is yesterday's woman?
Diana's dresses are on permanent display. However, nobody
seems to know if exhibition space will be given in the redevelopment.
Kensington Palace was built in 1605. William III and his
wife, Queen Mary bought it in 1689. George I and Queen Anne held court there;
Queen Victoria was born and raised there.
When Princess Diana died in the Paris car crash in 1997
thousand of people went there laying wreaths and flowers at her former home.
The Prince and Princess of Michael of Kent and the
Gloucesters are still living there.
