GLOBAL ANTI-CORRUPTION SUMMIT IN LONDON Update 23 August, 2020

Well obviously, even to the plebs, nothing has changed. On the contrary, under PM Johnson, it has gone worse. The corruption is in full swing. Tories spending Taxpayers' money by £mlns given to their friends, donors and families.

People are starving, freezing and living on the street. They now facing evictions  by 100,000s because of unpaid rents due to Covid lockdown. At first Johnson promised No Eviction but he and his gang changed their minds and giving short term eviction notices.

UPDATE 17 March 2019 -- Doubt it made any difference despite spending all that money for that meeting.

UPDATE: 20 May, 2016 --
We have not heard the result of it? Was it again another useless exercise at taxpayers' money. Whatever the explanation it was an useless and expensive exercise led by no other but PM David Cameron.

The anti-corruption summit is not chaired by any other but PM David Cameron. It is a joke but no laughing matter.

On top of it all he calls Afghanistan and Nigeria a nation "fantastically corrupt".

Before we go into further details it has to be mentioned that Mr Cameron shows again manners which should be questioned and reprimanded. It is not a behaviour of a statesman especially with such a high education.

According to the report in The Independent, London is the tax haven of the world and of money laundering of the global drug trade.

How can David Cameron chair a Global Anti-Corruption Summit trying to show a white vest and trying to lay down the laws is anyone's guess?

The Foreign Aid is a thorn in the side of the public and in view of their hardship, starvation and homelessness critic it is not unfounded. What the public did not know because it was well under cover African nations lose twice as much in-off-shore corporate cash flows to a place like London than they received in foreign aid. UK foreign aid is often tied to private finance infrastructure projects in developing countries. It allows tax avoidance while the City of London offers high priced financial services and this in turn the third world nations end-up with unplayable debts.

Wow what a dirty trick and they put on a show of being sympathetic and trying to help the poor people. No wonder David Cameron insists on continuing paying all those Foreign Aid programmes.

A record shows that between 2002 and 2013 the UK gave £663million on its aid budged to Private Infrastructure Development Group supporting Public-Private Partnership infrastructures.

While Prime Minister forever pledges honesty, openness and full transparency he quietly does the opposite. He gagged the press, tries to cut Freedom of Information, gag charities, sold the Royal Mail in the shortest time, passes bills through without debates and voting, bombing Syria without permission of MPs and so fourth.

Hardly a record of honesty, openness and transparency.
He might have even rigged the GE2015 because 26 MPs are being investigated by the police for not declaring the full expenditures when campaigning for the General Election. Hopefully the truth comes out.

The Global Anti-Corruption Summit has three points.

Exposure of corruption (if followed through many heads will roll)
Punish its perpetrators (they have to build a new prison)
Drive out the culture of corruption (all the British Isle will be bankrupt)

In 2011 George Osborne and David Gauke signed a tax non-prosecution-agreement with Switzerland which led Switzerland off the hook and it promised to refund some of the UK lot of tax evader.

George Osborne stated to have received back £5billion but the real true figure show a merely £135million.

The US fined HSBC $1.9billion for running an extensive money laundering operation for Mexican drug cartels.

The two senior HSBC directors in charge at the time Stephen Green were involved were invited into the Government and made Lord by David Cameron. Rona Fairhead is chair for the BBC Trust which judges the BBC.

In 2012 Barclays was fined by the US and UK authority for rigging LIBOR interest rates.

RBS, HBSC and 16 other global banks were involved too. It should have been a judge lead inquiry where witness have to tell the truth under oath.

David Cameron changed it to an useless MPs led parliamentary inquiry.

To avoid further bank scandals the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) was scrapped on 1 January, 2016.

Martin Wheatley, CEO, was removed for being to tough on banks.

To repeat again, David Cameron with a track record like that organising anti-corruption conference preaching about to stop corruption is a joke but not for a laugh.

Again, all these shows will cost the taxpayers' money. He most probably will set up a new body to deal with anti-corruption and again it will be a waste of time and money but it is taxpayers' money which does not worry David Cameron.

NEW CT SCANNERS COPE WITH OBESE PATIENTS

In spite of all the warning from doctors and experts but obesity is rising whatever the reason. The call of hospitals having to buy new scanner to cope with obese patients is on the increase.  The new CT scanner has almost five times the X-ray power of normal machines.  It has the power of 240KW as to previous machines of 50KW. It is necessary for doctors to receive a good image.

The maximum weight it can cope with had increased from 160kg to 300kg. The board has changed from 70cm to 80cm.  The machine has also to improve its lightening speed   because obese patients can not hold their breath as long as other patients.  The cost of one of this new machine is £1million each.

==================================================
PLEASE BE SO KIND AND CLICK ON ADVERTS.  THANK YOU.
==================================================

Russell Lodge, business manger at Siemens Healthcare providing these machines to the NHS said: “The number of bariatric (obese) patients referred for CT scans has more than doubled in 125 years and is predicted to go on rising.”

Statistics show that over 64 per cent of adults in England are overweight. Apparently the North East has the highest admission to hospitals for obesity. One reason for the highest obesity located in the North-East is high unemployment which is purely the fault of this Tory-led Coalition and Margaret Thatcher who closed down mines and shipbuilding industry.  Naturally unemployed people sit about more and eat more.   The treatment for over weight problems costs the NHS £5.1billions a year. If this money would have been invested into industry in the North East is would have produced taxes instead of unemployment benefits.
What kind of Chancellor is George Osborn who cost the economy £240billion with his stupid austerity.

Tam Fry, National Obesity Forum, said: “The rapidly expanding size of CT scanners is shocking but sadly, not surprising. As a society, we have allowed people to get fatter and fatter. This is not about blaming individual patients, because every one’s circumstances are different. But it is absolutely tragic that as a nation we are becoming so fat we have to redesign medical equipment.”

Due to the increase obese patients the hospitals also had widen the corridors and larger doors fitted.
Generally CT scans use X-rays and computer to produce a detailed image of your body. The images called tomograms are more detailed. The produced images of the inside of your body are used to diagnose cancer, bone conditions, heart conditions and injuries to organs.

The first commercial CT scanner was invented by Sir Godfrey Woodsfield in London.  It produced the first brain scan in the world in October 1971.

PARALYMPIC FLAME -- UPDATES

THE SYMBOL OF THE PARALYMPICS

UPDATE:  8 January 2013  --  The Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor  George Osborne were  there to  hand out the medals.  They were booed by 90.000 spectators.  To sit there watching the horrendous effort and struggles of disabled people and planing at the same time to cut their Disabled Benefit must take a very cold blooded man. Especially David Cameron who experienced Disability at first hand.  By now it cost around 1,000 lives because the government agency ATOS cut their benefit.  Even so the death might not all be because of the Disability Benefits being cut but surely at least half are.  AS that would be all but the government closed 67 factories where disabled people could work contemning then imprisonment at home.
UPDATE -- 9 September 2012:   Britain is on second place with winning medals. The first place is Chine. This is a fantastic achievement for a small island .  Congratulation and well done. The athletes can be proud of themselves and so is the nation proud of them.

The Paralympic flame was ignited on Friday and it gave the signal of its beginning of  Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, 29 August, 2012. On Wednesday 8.45am the Paralympic flame crosses the famous Abbey Road in North West London.  9.37am it passes through the London Zoo.  10.45am Ex-boxer Michael Watson who was brain damaged in his last fight will carry it on Regent Street.   1.12pm the flame will be taken over the Tower Bridge.  6.20pm at Hackney Town Hall on its way to the Olympic Stadium and it arrived at around 9pm.
Claire Lomas, 32, lit a ceremonial cauldron at Trafalgar Square before the Wednesday’s Opening Ceremony. She is paralysed from the chest down caused by a riding accident in 2007.  Earlier this year she finished at the London Marathon in 16 days wearing a bionic suit.  She commented that she felt very proud to be selected to lit the cauldron. She admitted that she was trembling before but was glad it all went smoothly.

At the same time the GB’s Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team gave a demonstration of their great abilities inside St Paul’s Cathedral.

On Tuesday four flames kindled in the home nations will be united for a 24-hour relay to Stratford from Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Buckinghamshire.  It will take 580 torchbearers, in team of five, to cover the 92 miles which goes through Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and London to the Olympic Stadium.
Prime Minister David Cameron wished the 4,280 competitors good luck.  The Athletes will compete on front of a record breaking crowd.

The Paralympics began in 1948 at Stoke Mandeville, where neurologist Sir Ludwig Guttman helped Second World War veteran overcome their injuries with sport.

SIR LUDWIG GUTTMAN

Seb Coes the chairman of the London 2012 Olympics stated that without being too jingoistic or nationalistic it has to be seen as the Paralympics coming home.

London Major Boris Johnson added: “The Olympics showed what we can don and I think the paralympics will show what kind of people we are … what’s going on in our hearts.”

The Agitos symbol of the Paralympics was lowered into place over the Thames on Tower Bridge.
Up to 166 National Paralympic Committees were arriving in the athletes’ village. They were the biggest number to attend the Paralympic Games.

It is unbelievable the achievements and determination of these athletes it certainly puts everyone to shame. It is unfortunate that we forget too quickly what these people go through due to various injuries even in their ordinary daily life and their heroic spirit to achieve these gold, silver and bronze medals.

UPDATE:  By now the competition is in full swing but the Opening Ceremony is still in the mind of many who were there. It was spectacular and even better than the Olympics Opening Ceremony. The title was Enlightenment and it certainly was. Professor Stephan Hawking telling a young disabled actress not to look down on her feet but look up to the stars. After a wonderful and inspiring three hours the flame was carried by Royal Marine Commando Joe Townsend, 24, who lost both legs fighting in Afghanistan.

The Queen's speech was: "It is with tremendous pride that the people of London and the United Kingdom welcome the world to the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

"The Games are returning to the country where they first began, more than 60 years ago.

"The athletes endeavours and triumphs will excite and inspire people wherever they live."

SHARK ALERT IN DEVON ENGLAND

GREAT WHITE SHARK ALERT

UPDATE:  25 July 2013 -- In the last few weeks quite a number of killer sharks were spotted off the South Coast of England. It is due to the exceptional hot summer which made the sea warm up more and the herring followed down south.

UPDATE September 5, 2012

A few weeks ago one was caught on the coast of Devon and a few days ago one at the coastal area of Scotland.

In recent years shark alerts are coming more and more frequent. Again there was a shark alert on North Devon coast.  One of the people was raising the alarm after spotting a shark fin close to the Croyde Bay.
The lifeguards of the RNLI advised people to get out of the water. The fin was seen so close that it was within the “safe swimmer zone.”

The Conservation charity ‘The Shark Trust’ doesn’t think it was a basking shark. Basking sharks are harmless and filter their food. They are called the “gentle giants”.

An RNLI spokesman said: “It’s not unusual for there to be sharks and while this species of basking sharks  is harmless, lifeguards maintain a watchful eye for all aquatic hazards.”

As mentioned earlier sharks seems to visiting British waters more frequently. The Conservationists and experts can’t quite agree to the reason for the increase.

At the beginning of the month, the Cornwall Wildlife Trust stated that the sharks were back in Cornish waters in greater numbers than they had seen them in the last summer.  They counted 28 sightings in June alone. They were basking sharks and they are known to be harmless.

TITANIC DISASTER NEARLY DESTROYED SOUTHAMPTON

When the Titanic sank and with it the elite of the Edwardian era it made great headlines. Not many newspapers wrote about Southampton which was most affected. Shortly before the disaster Southampton was declared as the main port before it was Liverpool. The White Star was the only ones in the area recruiting people. The jobs on offer were firemen or stokers earning £6 a month and stewards earning £3 15s a month.

At the time of the Titanic disaster there was a miners’ strike and many men were eager to join the ship. Southampton had 100,000 inhabitants and 538 of the crew members were from Southampton. Apparently the worst hit area was Northam. The Northam school children of which a 100 lost a relative.

When they heard of the disaster everybody was hoping that their father and/or son would have survived and picked-up by the nearby ship Carpathia.

The telegrams which were sent to the families stating nothing more than “Much regret, name, not saved”. What an incredible heartless way of telling the family they lost their breadwinner. Let’s face it the elite, although just as tragically, did not have the loss of their income as well as their loved ones.

These families stood there with nothing to neither feed their children nor clothe them. At a time when they had hard times already. They had to pawn their furniture and relied on handouts to feed their children and themselves. The relief fund accumulated to £412,000 which would be today’s £20m even so in those days it was a huge sum. The Mayor of Southampton George Bowyer launched his own appeal.

Widows of non-salaries crew received nothing and that from a highly profitable White Star Line. They were completely dependent on the relief fund to keep them out of the workhouse. A fireman’s widow received a weekly 12s 6p plus 12s 6p for every child and an officer’s widow £2 per week.

The Salvation Army’s “slum officers” brought milk, tea, sugar and bread for the needy.

The historian Stephanie Barczewski wrote a book about the tragedy titled “A Night Remembered” and stated upon his finding that the film couldn’t have been more removed from the reality. He stated that Southampton was the place of the real tragedy.

The report from the Daily Mirror in 1912 gives a full view of the impact the disaster had on the town.

Mrs May across the way lost her husband and oldest son.....the son married a year ago and his wife had baby six weeks ago ...Mrs Allen round the corner lost her husband George....and the young girl in black is Mrs Barnes... she lost here brother ...the woman going into the shop is Mrs Gosling ... she lost her son ...and Mrs Preston of Princess Street, a widow lost her son too...

Nothing shows more clearly than that person's report. How close the losses were.

IMPROVEMENT OF ENVIRONMENT

RIVER THAMES
AND TOWER BRIDGE
 - LONDON - ENGLAND
For once I can report some good news. It had been stated that a record number of trout and salmon are returning to English rivers. A sign that pollution of the water is getting less. Therefore, the campaign of reducing waste and reducing pesticides are showing a result and were worth every effort.
There is a huge amount of sea trouts in the Thames and Tyne. These rivers also show a healthy stock of salmon.
The river Mersey was so polluted that at some stretches it caught fire. Now the Environment Agency states Athat the Mersey is at its cleanest for a century.
The Environment Agency reported that the quality of river water has risen for the 20th successive year and 70 per cent of rivers are classed as 'good' or 'very good'.
The success was due to further investment by water companies, polluters being prosecuted and farms reduced their pesticides which used to flow into rivers via rain and small streams.
The best record of improvement has the river Tyne; 50 years ago there were no salmon and sea-trout. Now it shows a record of more the 15,000. This is the highest so far, since record began.
However, Sarah Oppenheimer, a water expert for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds states that the agency has to do more. She said: "If the health of all wildlife in our rivers is considered, then only about a quarter meets the European standard of 'good status' - the measurement for all countries in the Europe

GEORGE WALKER - BOXER CHAMPION

GEORGE WALKER ON THE LEFT
George Walker, in spite of his fame, had many ups and downs in his life. He coped with three bankruptcies, faced two years in prison and was accused of stealing millions but being a true fighter he always came out of the corner and saw the fight right through.

He was born April 14, 1929 in Stepney, East London, England. At the age of 14 he left school and worked as a fish-market porter. Boxing was a very wide spread sport in those days in the East End and many boxing clubs existed. Some better, some worse. George also joined and became a British Amateur Boxing Champion. This brought him to the attention of the real professionals. He was nicknamed as the Stepney Steamroller. George became no 7 in the world’s ranking. However, he suffered an injury and that put an end to his boxing career.

Not knowing where to turn to next to earn a living Walker got into a gang managed by Billy Hill. A notorious gangster very closed to the Kray brothers’ underworld. George was caught and spent two years in prison.
When he came out of prison he married his wife Jean. They had three children named Jason, Sarah and Romla. Later, Sarah married the Marquess of Milford Haven, Prince Philip’s cousin.

But before this all came about, George started as a manager to his brother Billy Walker. Billy became a professional boxer when he defeated US heavyweight champion Cornelius Perry. George demanded a fee of £10,000 for each Billy’s fight. After six fights the brothers bought a number of baked potato restaurants. When they sold the chain they were really starting to get involved in big business.

GEORGE WALKER WITH HIS BUILDING PROJECT
George had a good eye for great business opportunities. He bought a piece of derelict land and built the Brent Cross shopping mail on it. This turned out to be highly successful. The William Hill petting shop’s chain which George built into a £600million worth of business. He sold it later for a £1billion. In those days George was a celebrity in the City (the financial world of London, England).

The Brent Walker’s empire grew further into casinos, marinas, golf courses, hotels and restaurants all over western Europe. He also became a film producer and turned an average actress Joan Collins into a super star with the film “The Stud”.

At the beginning of the Nineties the average economy slowed down and so did Brent Walker. All of a sudden the company found itself in £150million of debt. Although the shareholders stayed with Walker but he had to declare bankruptcy in 1993.

The in 1994 the Serious Fraud Office started to investigate and Walker was in court accused of inflating the profits by £19.3 million to encourage investors. After four-and-a-half-months and cost of around £40million the case was dropped.

Walker did not stay idle. He started with satellite technology and beamed sporting events to Russia. Another of his company Tote was running a Moscow lottery. Soon he became a Russian citizen.

George Walker died on March 24, 2011 aged 81. He had previously two heart attacks and suffered of stomach cancers. He had a fatal heart attack when he was in the South of France.
