Update 25 July, 2020 - This article proves that economy was bad for a long time and not just due to CV19 lockdown. Therefore, its feared, Johnson will the collapse of the economy blame on CV19. Admittedly it didnt help but already in June 2019 it showed a deficit and ever since we never saw another report which doesnt hide the facts but tells it.
Johnson and his gang will not accept that Austerity kills the economy. If you havent got the money even for food or pay the bills how can you buy anything else which eventually effects retailers and manufacturer. Its as simple as that!

PM May and her Tories keep praising that the economy is improving. The reality shows a different picture.

It had been forecast that 60,000 shops will close and 300,000 staff redundant by the end of 2018 or 2019.

The devastation in British high streets are destroying whole communities. It is hard to tell what is the real reason behind it? The fact remains that if you cut benefits, keep wages low eventually people are forced to stop buying. The result is shop closures, manufacturing slowing down and redundancies which again comes back to less buying. It is a vicious circle with a downward spiral effect.

It isn’t rocket science and everybody can figure it out. So, why is the government not listening to the devastating results and still hell-bend on further cuts?

At first it affected the small shops in the High Street which closed-down when Austerity was introduced in 2012. Now, in the last year the big corporation and supermarket started to lose. Despite of it all, May introduced a £12billion Welfare cut and £16billion council cut.

The effect came before Christmas when it is always a great boom to the economy but last year it was not.

To add to the disastrous situation already, Bank of England increased interest rates to 0.5 per cent which increased lending, mortgage, prices in supermarket and rail fares.

It hit home; consumer stopped spending on Christmas presents.

The result is that ToysRus faced bankruptcy and saved themselves by closing 26 branches.

Moss Bros. issued profits warnings.

Thomas Cook closed 50 travel agency branches.

Debenhams had a drop of 2.6 per cent during Christmas.

Lloyds Bank closed around 800 branches in 2017.

Marks & Spencer non-food sales dropped by 2.8 per cent.

House of Fraser requested store rent cut from their landlords because of low Christmas business.

New Look fell on hard times and is still in trouble.

Big retailers stated that they surviving a worse time for 40 years. They also pointing out that the Government is not listening and adapting a policy which helps retailer.

The fear is real that the High Street as we know it will be soon lost and with that the community.

One backlash on retail and the High Street is the Internet. People are so pressed for time that they buy a lot from the Internet. It is understandable and very convenient but the disadvantage on the environment is an increase of delivery vans, traffic jams and pollution.

It is now up to the Government to find a solution to improve the problems. May can’t keep on putting her head into the sand much longer and never give a solution at PMQ and flapper about anything else but give an answer or quote false statistics. 

GREEN SUBSIDIES FOR SUPERMARKETS

Again, why Supermarkets are subsidised, in other words more money into fatcats pockets, which is taxpayers' money, instead of given it to the people to buy more food. 

MPs warned that millions of tonnes of edible food being wasted because of “perverse incentives” that reward turning it into green energy.

So far, this system allows firms to drop surplus food at low cost or for free at subsidised plants that make energy from anaerobic digestion. They also could be paid £60 per tonne.

Now the powerful Commons Committee will question food industry chiefs next week whether this state subsidy should not be given to the supermarkets to redistribute the surplus food to the needy. 

On Wednesday bosses of Tesco, Sainsbury, Waitrose, Morrison and the Food and Drink Federation will be questioned why not huge amount of food could be distributed to charities instead of mulched at anaerobic digestion plants to create biogas and fertiliser.

The Evening Standard, a London free newspaper, campaigned for Food for London and successfully managed to get top supermarket donate surplus to The Felix Project.  

Felix Project, delivers fresh produce to charities feeding hungry Londoners, food which would have gone into the bin.

Justin Bryan Shaw, co-founder with wife Jane of The Felix Project said: “Research by the Fare-Share charity could enable the food industry to make available a further 100,000 tonnes of surplus food  each year to charity. This could pretty much eradicate food poverty in the UK.”

An unbelievable 1.6 million tonnes of food every year are being wasted in Britain while people are starving and children go to school without breakfast. It is high time that it will be turned around and the Government acts quickly. It had been dragging on for years already and far too long.  

A most disgraceful situation created by Cameron’s Tory government while he created the highest number in the world of richest Elites.

GOOD FOOD WASTED

At a time when families are so hard up in Britain that they have to go to food banks it has been reported that two billion tones – two billion tonnes -- of perfect food being thrown away each year which is a crime.

The reason for this to happen is either transport or storage problems. Also the EU’s rule for uniform size fruit and vegetables, which is another crazy idea coming from Brussels, causes this wastage.

Where is the sense for one apple not being the same size as the other? This rule makes the growers throw away 30 per cent of their produce. Also it had been said in previous reports; the growers spray fruits to have the right size which would mean another chemical.

Gosh those bureaucrats in Brussels do not know what they are doing.

The Institute of Mechanical Engineering issued a report that they want to have the rule stopped of  buy-one-get-one-free. This also encourages housewives to buy more food than they actual eat and throw the rest away.

A further criticism was made about fruit and vegetable not being perfect and therefore the supermarkets will not buy it. There again the rules have to be more relaxed and given the customer the choice of buying less perfect looking food which would help financially. 

The problems here is that the supermarkets will not buy them because it will be offered at reduce price and therefore the profits will not be high enough. Supermarkets should also consider that the customers would buy more because it is more affordable. Therefore their profit would come in from the quantity

To counteract to the supermarket’s powers and arrogance would be more farmers’ market.  It would help the farmers as well in selling the less perfect fruit and vegetable and help the consumers. Besides the farmers would have the full money as with selling it to supermarkets they only get a share.

The wastage of fruit and vegetables is also a waste of water and in growing, processing and distribution.

This two billion tonnes of wasted food has certainly to be look into it to avoid such a squander.

Again it is amazing that the authorities have not done something about it all this time.
